Using your intuitive mindset to create a better parenting journey
What is “using your intuition” really mean? What is an intuitive mindset? This phrase is often casually thrown around and many people just have no idea what this means and how important this is for this critical period of pregnancy, your birthing process and parenthood too. There are many different words to describe intuition- it’s that 6th sense, that gut feeling you feel when you just know something but can’t explain it. Intuition is simply that feeling in your gut when you instinctively know that something you’re doing is right or wrong. It is also when you know something is wrong, you “feel” it and you don’t know why; it’s just a hunch.
Some may ask, why is this important? As a former RN of 35 years, when I worked in Neonatal ICU (NICU), post partum and Health Link, I often encountered parents that by NOT listening to their intuition, they had medical concerns that were probably worse than if they had listened to it. Newborn babies that were so dehydrated from poor feeding, due to high jaundiced levels, that they needed to be admitted to NICU- get an intravenous started for hydration, along with phototherapy. A mom that was in active labour with twins, 1 hour from a hospital, was considered high risk and needed to call 911. I have many stories I can remember over the years, and this was the reason I decided to retire from nursing and teach intuitive mindset to this population. I believe everyone has these intuitive abilities; I just help people to trust what they already know to be true.
I also encountered new parents that became overwhelmed after having their newborn, because they encountered something different than they wanted to experience. Their birth plan didn’t go as planned. Sometimes there are medical issues that occur that are out of our control but having extra unwanted visitors in the Labour & Delivery room, due to an overbearing family member can be avoided just by using your intuition. I think everyone should learn to tap into these intuitive skills and trust themselves at all times.
There are a few easy and basic steps to shift toward learning to use your intuitive skills.
It did take me several years to understand some of these concepts, and I am even still learning, so some parents feel they need some guidance understanding how to learn how to trust their intuition.
